One of Asia's most experienced regional economists, Andrew Freris provides strategic analysis and insights into the economies of Asia and investment opportunities.
Dr Freris is based in Hong Kong where he was until recently the Chief Investment Advisor for BNP Paribas in Asia, having fulfilled a number of economist roles with the bank's Wealth Management team and its Fixed Income & Treasury divisions. He was a member of the BNP Paribas Wealth Management Investment Committee. In his current role, he provides analysis and strategic positioning in Asian credit, interest and forex rates markets, as well as macroeconomic coverage of ten Asian economies, including China. The Asiamoney Financial Institutions FX poll for 2007 and 2008 voted his team first for macro research. Formerly an academic in the UK and in Hong Kong, he has held numerous consultancies, which included assignments with Unilever, The Confederation of British Industries (CBI), Wardley Investment Services, Coopers & Lybrand, Chase Manhattan Bank, Bank of America, National Westminster Bank, Hong Kong Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Samuel Montagu.
Andrew is regularly sought after for his comments in the media appearing for interviews on CNBC, Bloomberg, Reuters TV, India’s UTV and New Delhi TV, Japan’s NHK, as well as The BBC, Channel News Asia, TVB Pearl and others. He is the author of three books; The Soviet Industrial Enterprise: Theory and Practice (1984), The Greek Economy in the Twentieth Century (1986) and The Financial Markets of Hong Kong (1991) and has written for many academic publications on various topics about Asian economies.
