Andy Xie is a renowned independent economist, based in Shanghai and someone considered by Bloomberg in 2013 to be one of the top "50 most influential persons in finance. He is highly respected for his analysis and views, and was one of the few economists who accurately predicted a series of economic bubbles, including the South East Asian Financial Crisis and the US Subprime Financial Crisis.
He was the author of Double Dip: When the Bubble Bursts, I'll Tell You and is a regular columnist and contributor to South China Morning Post, New Century Weekly and Bloomberg. He is frequently interviewed by the Financial Times, Reuters and Bloomberg News.
He joined Morgan Stanley in 1997 and held the position of Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific Economics until 2006 and held other banking roles prior to this including five years as an economist with the World Bank, which he joined through the Young Professionals Program. In this role, he took charge of the World Bank programs for Indonesia and other Asia-Pacific countries.
