A leading authority on India's economic development
Dr Suman Bery is one of India's best respected economists, who over many years has been a highly influential advisor to India's government. He currently serves as a Fellow of the Brussels based think-tank, Bruegel, he serves on the Central Board of the State Bank of India and he is a member of the Advisory Council of MasterCard International's Center for Inclusive Growth.
Suman had earlier served as Director-General (Chief Executive) of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi. NCAER is one of India's leading independent non-profit policy research institutions. At various times Suman was a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, of India's Statistical Commission and of the Reserve Bank of India's Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy. Prior to NCAER, Mr. Bery was with the World Bank in Washington DC with a particular focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. At the time of India's economic reforms (1992-1994), on leave from the World Bank, Mr. Bery worked as Special Consultant to the Reserve Bank of India, Bombay. His professional writing includes contributions on the political economy of reform, financial sector and banking reform and energy trends and policy.
He is prominent in the discussion about India's economy, the economic relationship between China and India, and the world energy industry. He has been a monthly columnist for the Indian business newspaper Business Standard for more than a decade and has over the years been the publisher and editor-in-chief of various economic papers. He is a speaker at business summits and international forums; he is a regular speaker at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), The World Bank, The World Economic Forum (WEF) and other such prestigious and influential forums, as well as being invited as a guest speaker at many of the world's leading universities and business schools.

Suman graduated from Magdalen College, Oxford, with a first-class honors degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) and he holds a Masters in Public and International Affairs and gained his Ph.D. from Princeton University. He currently lives and works in New Delhi.
