Dr Daniel Franklin is a writer, editor and commentator on the world's political, economic and business developments. He has spent over 25 years observing, analyzing and forecasting global economic developments and interpreting the impact of political and economic forces on business.
He served successively as The Economist Europe Editor, Britain Editor and Washington Bureau Chief before spending a decade as Editorial Director of the Economist Intelligence Unit where he directed editorial operations in London, Vienna, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing.
In July 2006 he became Executive Editor of The Economist and spent a period as the Business Affairs Editor looking after the "back-end" of The Economist newspaper. He also spent a period as editor of economist.com.
Since 2003 he has also been Editor of The World in., an annual yearbook of global predictions published by The Economist. Daniel has contributed to a wide range of Economist Group publications including The Economist itself and various Economist Intelligence Unit country reports and forecasts. He has since co-edited two important books: MegaChange: The World in 2050 and MegaTech: Technology in 2050.
Daniel is extraordinarily popular as a speaker at event and especially in client forums where he speaks in front of, or moderates top level discussion with senior business leaders. He is also an experienced broadcaster on radio and television, e.g. BBC, CNBC and CNN. He often delivers speeches on global economic and political issues, or delivers strategic level briefings which usually focus on the global economic environment and the global business outlook.
