Dr Hedrick-Wong has over 25 years of experience as an economist, business strategist and writer, with strong expertise in Asian consumer markets (especially China, India, and Japan but also SEA and Australia). He advises on policy and strategy, monitors and forecasts economic growth and emerging regional trends. He advises on market entry, public policy challenges, impacts of demographic and lifestyle changes and overall business opportunities and threats.
Dr Hedrick-Wong is also an Adjunct Professor at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia, Canada. Yuwa is a highly seasoned presenter at events ranging from major business conferences to client seminars and was voted "Communicator of the Year" at the 2004 Asian PR Awards for achievements with MasterCard Worldwide and contributes regularly to global print and TV media. He has recently authored a series of books on the Asia consumer, written for MasterCard International: Holding up Half of the Sky: women consumers in Asia, The Glittering Silver Market: the rise of elderly consumers in Asia, Succeeding Like Success: the affluent consumers of Asia and most recently The Future and Me: Power of the Youth Market in Asia.
Based in Singapore he is an Economic Advisor to MasterCard International Worldwide and chairs its Asia Knowledge Panel of leading economists, policy analysts and strategists. He is also Chief Economist for Southern Capital Group and inn 2009 was appointed to the Investment Advisory Committee of ICICI, India's largest private bank; which advises on investment and asset allocation decisions in light of global economic dynamics and sector development trends. He was formerly an advisor to Global Demographics. Prior to this, he held positions with Strategic Intelligence (Singapore), The British High Commission (Bangladesh), Canadian Advanced Medical Services International (Vancouver) and Horizon Pacific International (Vancouver).
Yuwa Hedrick-Wong was born and educated in Canada, and holds a BA in Philosophy, Political Science & Economics from Trent University, Canada (1972), a MA in Economics (1979) and a Ph.D. in Economics from Simon Fraser University, Canada, (1981).
